The Fleet Ranks and Promotions Empty
PostSubject: The Fleet Ranks and Promotions   The Fleet Ranks and Promotions I_icon_minitimeThu Jun 07, 2012 4:54 pm

Promotion reviews will be held by one member of at least Officer rank and another of at least Commodore rank, once per week, to determine who is eligible for promotion, and to advance members through the fleet as they decide.

The exceptions to this are the ranks at or above officer, which will require at least a Commodore to approve the promotion to Officer, and a Fleet Admiral for higher.

Recruitment requirements:
Any Starfleet officer at rank Lieutenant Commander 1 or higher is eligible for membership in RIFT. To join, they must be sponsored by one member at a rank of Ensign or higher, whom will be responsible for making sure the new Cadet learns the rules of the fleet, as needed.

Cadet
As a brand new recruit to the fleet, a cadet is responsible for learning the basics of the fleet, getting to know the rules, and getting to know the members, while allowing the members to get to know them.
The new Cadet will remain a Cadet until they are reviewed and determined to be of good character and a good fit for the Fleet.

Ensign
An ensign within the fleet should still be becoming more familiar with the way things work within the fleet, and should be learning how to better work as a part of a team. Each ensign will be assigned to a Sergeant, who will be their commanding officer. Requests for credits and items from the bank should go through the sergeant, as should questions or concerns. This rank will be the majority of the clan. The positions higher up will have a role to fill, and, as such, will not be promoted into until and unless there is an opening.

Sergeant
The Sergeant is where the work starts for the member. The sergeant gets things done. Passing info along, answering questions and concerns of the membership, and taking care of business in general.
Each sergeant should have up to 5 Ensigns under his command. He is responsible for making sure those 5 people are happy within the group, and are getting what they want from the group, and vice versa. A sergeant will also be able to make recommendations for members of their command to move up the ladder into officer positions. This position will also be one of the more numerous, as players can be promoted to this rank (but not further) as a recognition for outstanding merit within the fleet.

Officer
An officer is a member of the fleet who assists the leadership with getting things done, and will have a particular sphere or responsibility. This will be expanded upon more as we develop further. In general, an officer will have 3 sergeants whom report to them, and are all working actively towards a particular objective. This can be finances, research, etc, etc. An officer will be chosen at random to sit in on Promotion Reviews and make their recommendations. An officer has the authority to promote a member on merit from ensign to sergeant, with no need for review from higher ranks. Officer is also the rank at which a member gains mostly unrestricted access to the Fleet Bank.
A Commodore must approve the promotion to the officer rank.

Fleet Captain
The Fleet Captain is an officer who has served for a period of time, say 6 months (can be changed), and has shown themselves to be active, loyal, and trustworthy. They continue to perform their normal duties, with a slightly higher pay grade (not that we get paid ^_^) This position is only attainable with a majority vote from the current Fleet Admirals.

Commodore
This rank is a two-purpose position. It is an officer position, for officers who have served with distinction and merit as a Fleet Captain for 6 months or more (time changes possible). Also, the Commodore rank is a rank for someone who can get involved in planning and executing Fleet-wide events. This rank can only be granted with a majority vote from the current Fleet Admirals.

Fleet Admiral
The fleet admiral is responsible for making sure everything is running as intended, and for making policy decisions, usually by vote or council. We get stuff done, filling in where needed. A unanimous vote by all Fleet Admirals is necessary to raise a member to this rank.

Also, for requirements:

Sergeant and above are required to be registered here on the forums, and if a member is interested in being promoted past Sergeant, they will need to make a request in the promotions request forum.
